Hot Springs, Arkansas is nestled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains among the U.S. Interior Highlands. Hot Springs National Park is the first National Park in the country situated about 55 miles southwest of Little Rock. The thermal waters fed by natural springs have been popularly believed to possess therapeutic healing properties. Following federal protection in 1832, the city flourished as a spa town. A hub of tourism, these springs have attracted the multitudes since the early 1900s. ââ¬Å"Bathhouse Rowâ⬠as it is lovingly referred to, has taken full advantage of the thermal hot waters and does so still today utilizing the 47 springs within the area. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Water quality shows notable differences in water chemistry during base flow and storm flow conditions. Providing further evidence of the mixing relatively close to the surface.
